Colrain Posts Tax Taking Notice for Delinquent FY23-26 Taxes
COLRAIN — Colrain's Tax Collector has posted a notice of tax taking for delinquent fiscal year 2023 through 2026 real estate taxes, setting the action for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 10 a.m., while the town also held its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Saturday and the Colrain Historical Society opened a fundraiser art exhibit in Shelburne Falls.

The Tax Collector's office posted a Notice of Tax Taking covering fiscal years 2023 through 2026, with the action scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 10 a.m., according to the town's News Flash feed. The posting, dated Thursday, September 17, signals the start of formal proceedings against property owners with outstanding real estate tax balances from those years.
Colrain held its Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, September 19, with drop-off sites at Greenfield Community College and the Orange Transfer Station, giving residents a chance to dispose of chemicals, paints and other hazardous materials that cannot go out with regular trash.
The town is also seeking volunteers to serve on a newly formed Taxation Aid Committee, a General Town News posting shows. Separately, Griswold Memorial Library is inviting public comment on a landscaping plan in development to address runoff issues and improve the library grounds.

The Colrain Historical Society opened "Colrain & The Hilltowns On Canvas Art Show VII" at the Shelburne Buckland Community Center, 53 Main St. in Shelburne Falls, running Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20. The exhibition, a fundraiser for the Historical Society, draws on private collections and features more than 60 works by roughly 30 artists, mixing historical Hilltowns painters such as Wm. Lester Stevens and A. Hale Johnson with contemporary Colrain artists including Marshall Looman, Althea Brigham and Donald Greason.

The Historical Commission meets Monday, September 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Highway Garage, 9 Jacksonville Road. The Council on Aging holds foot clinics Tuesday, September 22, and Wednesday, September 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Town Office, 55 Main Road. The Finance Committee meets Tuesday, September 22, from 4:15 to 6 p.m. at the Highway Garage and via MS Teams, followed by the Select Board and Municipal Light Plant Board at 4:30 p.m. the same day, also at the Highway Garage and on Microsoft Teams.
